The AESCULAP ELAN 4 is the current high-speed electric power system for neuro, spine, ENT and maxillofacial surgery — the successor to the older Hi-Line XS — intended for high-speed cutting, sawing and drilling of bone. Its defining feature is a powerful direct drive motor in the handpiece that transfers power directly to the burr or blade, reducing friction, overheating and chatter.
